Drama Teacher
With direct oversight by the Program Specialist, Senior Summer Program Manager, Summer Program Manager, the drama teacher is responsible for planning and implementing a summer program that reflects the Holley Institute’s Carl Family Village’s mission and beliefs.
The drama teacher is responsible for teaching age-appropriate classes that inspire participant’s creative processes and self-expression through learning the skills, genres and fundamentals of Drama.
As a member of the Summer Program staff, you are expected to work in cooperation with other teachers, staff, and counselors.
Communicate any concerns or issues directly to the Program Specialist, Senior Summer Program Manager, and/or Summer Program Manager.
Duties
- Follow The Holley Institute’s Carls Family Village’s Summer Program Staff Handbook guidelines.
- Be on time and ready to receive participants.
- Make sure attendance is taken each day.
- Review medical and special needs forms provided by parents (you can ask information from the Program Specialist, Senior Summer Program Manager, and/or Summer Program Manager).
- Provide additional information to participants who need extra guidance or additional challenges.
- Communicate any concerns or issues about anything directly to the Program Specialist, Senior Summer Program Manager, and Summer Program Manager.
- Be able to problem solve and adapt to the needs of students, modifying instruction as needed.
- Inspire creative thinking through art examples and technique demonstration.
- Work with the Program Specialist, Senior Summer Program Manager, and Summer Program Manager to order supplies for the summer programs.
- Provides participant feedback throughout lessons.
- Give direction to assistants and/or counselors and utilize their time accordingly.
- Manage disruptive behavior.
- Notify the Program Specialist, Senior Summer Program Manager, and/or Summer Program Manager when the situation occurs.
- Ensure the safety of all the participants and follow procedures stated in the handbook.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding participants’ needs and experience as appropriate.
- Create a fun and inclusive atmosphere.
- Promote teamwork and a positive work environment.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age and have had two years working in an organized summer program and/or summer camp.
- Minimum three years of experience serving the Deaf/Hard of Hearing community in a progressively responsible role.
- Additional experience with programming and administering programs that reflects the Holley Institute’s Carls Family Village is desirable.
- Training and experience in working with children, teens, young adults, and parents are required.
- Possess certifications in CPR and First Aid is preferred.

- Rudimentary level of fluency in communicating via ASL (American Sign Language).
- Strong Computer Skills and Microsoft Office Proficiency (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Develop and deliver a drama program appropriate for our participants, considering their age, abilities, and summer program themes.

- b. Evaluate abilities of participants and adapt lessons accordingly.
- c. Implement varied and interactive daily drama sessions.
- d. Encourage participants’ self-expression and self-confidence through drama.
- Work with participants throughout the session to prepare for the final drama performance.
- Work with interested participants one-on-one to prepare individual performances for Family Night Performances.
