Youth Assistant/Intern

Position Title: Youth Assistant/Intern

Classification: Temporary Employee

Status: Part-Time ($20-22 per hour)

Supervisor: Director of Youth and Family Ministries

Role Summary: The Youth Assistant/Intern's primary responsibility is to serve the Bergen Park Church (BPC) youth by building relationships with middle and high schoolers and helping them grow in faith and discipleship. The Youth Assistant/Intern will have opportunities to develop in ministry by leading small group discussions, organizing activities and games, and teaching the youth.

Primary Responsibilities

(The Youth Assistant/Intern will grow into these roles outlined below and will not necessarily be expected to fulfill the hourly commitment or teaching responsibility within the first month. We will work with this person to ensure a reasonable schedule and distribution of tasks. The hours below are flexible.)

1. Be Present at and Participate in “Elevate” and “Roots.” Elevate is BPC’s Sunday night (5:30-8:30 pm) youth ministry to middle and high schoolers. Roots is a Sunday school program designed specifically for middle schoolers. It occurs on Sunday mornings during BPC’s worship services (9:00 am-12 pm). The Youth Assistant/Intern will sit in on classes and activities and may be asked to lead lessons, facilitate small groups, lead prayer, and organize games and activities. (6-7 hours per week, Sundays)

2. Lesson Preparation. As part of their involvement in Elevate and Roots, the Youth Assistant/Intern will prepare and teach Roots once per month and Elevate twice per month. Lesson preparation time will vary. (4 hours per week)

3. Pastoral Care. The Youth Assistant/Intern will develop relationships with the youth of BPC and provide pastoral care to these students.

4. Report to the Director of Youth and Family Ministries for Regular Check-Ins. (1 hour per week)

5. Flex Hours. The Youth Assistant/Intern will develop and pursue an area of gifting and passion that interests them and contributes to the overall vision of BPC for our youth. (1-2 hours per week)

• Ability to work as part of a team and cooperate with others to meet stated goals.

• Punctuality and attendance at all required events and activities.

• Willingness to follow the leadership of direct supervisors and elder team.

• Ability to communicate openly and honestly with supervisor and staff about needs, problems, and ideas for improvement.

Commitment to abide by and champion BPC's doctrinal tenets and the Evangelical Free Church of America.

• Desire to honor and champion BPC's mission and core values (see below).
