Clean Energy Intern
The City of Albany is interested in hiring an intern to assist the Office of Sustainability with advancing the clean energy transition and community advocacy. This internship is partially funded by the New York Energy Research and Development Agency through PON 4000.
As a Clean Energy Intern for the City of Albany, you can work on various clean energy projects. These may include:
- Clean Energy Technology: These projects may involve researching new and emerging clean energy technologies, such as battery storage, electric vehicles, and advanced renewable energy systems. You may also analyze data and assess these technologies' economic and environmental benefits for the municipality. In addition, promotes the adoption of these technologies within the community.
- Energy Efficiency and Weatherization: You may work on projects to improve energy efficiency and weatherization in local buildings. This may involve reviewing energy audits, analyzing data on energy usage, and matching contractors and building owners to implement energy-saving measures.
- Community Solar: You may work on promoting community solar projects to provide solar energy to individuals and businesses that cannot install solar panels on their property. This may involve conducting outreach to potential participants and educating the public.
- Community Capacity Building: You may work on projects to build community capacity around clean energy and sustainability. This may involve conducting community outreach and education, organizing community events, and working with local partners to develop and implement clean energy initiatives.
An intern will gain valuable experience in policy development, stakeholder engagement, project management, and community outreach through your work on these projects. The intern will also be able to network with professionals in the clean energy sector and contribute to developing clean energy solutions for a municipality.
The internship wage will be $22.66 per hour and will be based in person at Albany City Hall, with a flexible start date. Internships will last a minimum of 8 weeks and must last a minimum of 80 total hours. If an intern is not taking any classes during the internship, the maximum is 40 hours per week on average during the internship. While an intern takes one or more classes, the intern can work up to 18 hours per week on average. Total eligible hours are capped at 480 hours or the total of intern hours completed within a 12-month, whichever is fewer.
To be eligible for the program, you must qualify as at least one of the following:
- An individual currently attending or who attended a degree program at a college or university located in New York State within the last 12 months as of the date of the intern application.
- A current New York State resident attending or who attended a college or university outside of New York State within the last 12 months as of the date of the intern application. New York State residency, with proof of residency such as a rental agreement or utility bills, must have been established before starting the internship.
- A current New York State resident who is at least 16 years of age and is a member of a disadvantaged community and/or priority population designated by NYSERDA.
