Youth Camp Counselor (9667786)

Within the Esports department, Youth Camp Counselors assist with the oversight of West Virginia University (WVU) Campus Recreation Kids Summer Camp. Counselors are expected to provide positive role modeling and guidance for all Campers. Counselors should be flexible, energetic, and always carry themselves in a positive manner. Counselors will gain skills and experiences pertaining to customer service, leadership, teamwork, collaboration, and risk management. Counselors will work with Esports Department players and staff to gain knowledge of popular games played by todays youth. The following responsibilities listed below will be executed under the supervision of the Director of Esports and Graduate Assistance. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Responsible for executing overall program operations including teaching instructional lessons, facilitating activities, and addressing behavioral needs of youth participants 

• Provide a safe, educational, and fun experience for all youth participants 

• Establish and maintain positive and appropriate relationships with youth participants, parents/guardians, and staff 

• Represent the Esports Department in a professional manner at all times 

• Enforce and execute all policies and procedures set-forth by the Department 

• Assist with time-sensitive decisions based on the Department’s mission, vision, and values and directions given by Lead Counselors, Camp Directors or Program Graduate Assistants 

• Attend all required meetings and trainings as scheduled 

• Assist with leading, developing, planning, preparing, supervising, and other general program operations, activities, and initiatives 

• Assist with special projects and other tasks/duties as assigned 

QUALIFICATIONS 

• Must be currently enrolled as a degree-seeking student in good academic standing at WVU 

• Must have a basic knowledge of how to use the following video games: PC, Nintendo switch, Nintendo wii, PlayStation 5, Xbox 1 

• Have played or have working knowledge of 1 or more of the following games: Fortnite, Madden, FIFA, League of Legends, Valorant, Fortnite, Mario Kart, Fall Guys, Rocket League 

• Preferred training and/or experience in one or more of the following areas are preferred: sport education, childcare, camp counseling, team building, experiential education, recreational activities, and arts & crafts 

CERTIFICATIONS/TRAINING* 

• American Red Cross CPR for Professional Rescuer, AED & First Aid Certification 

(offered by Campus Recreation Department) 

• Policy 49 (Children on Campus Training) 

• Title IX 

• Passing University Background Check 

*Employees within the Esports Department are required to maintain levels of certification based on their specific positions. It is the employee’s responsibility to attain and maintain their certifications. All certifications and trainings must be obtained prior to the first official shift.
